  • Strand welcomes sculpture!
    Strand welcomes sculpture!

A Merseyside sculpture is being moved from the Museum of Liverpool to be showcased at the Strand Shopping Centre.
The iconic sculpture was made by a group of young people from Bootle in collaboration with artist Faith Bebbington for the opening of the new museum in 2011.
But now the artwork which includes features from Merseyside’s culture, art and history will be on display at the shopping centre from July 18.
All the young people involved are members of the Redi project, a mentoring programme ran by Ykids, a Bootle based children’s charity. The group of teenage girls entered a competition to work with Faith and said once they found out they had won they were delighted they had the opportunity to help create a statue and view it in the museum before it was open to the public.
Hannah Anderson, Ykids project worker said: “We were thrilled when the girls idea was chosen, they didn’t think they could do it at first, but Faith showed them how to create the different aspects of the sculpture and the result is amazing.”
Alan Wright, Deputy Manager of the Strand Shopping Centre said: “We are delighted to be supporting local artists and exhibiting the talent of Bootle young people.”
Kay Jones, Curator of Community History, Museum of Liverpool said: “We have loved having the sculpture on display in the atrium of the Museum of Liverpool for two years. It has been seen by a record breaking two million people since we opened. It is great to now see it on show in the shopping centre for a whole new audience to see.”
