Summer Fit camp success
The Strand
Shopping Centre’s Summer of Fitness goes out with a bang!
The summer
activity at The Strand was hailed a great success after huge numbers of
shoppers turned out to take part in its fun fit camp over the past four weeks.
The action
started with a Circus skills workshop and fun circus themed craft zone led by
celebrity Lloyd Warbey from Disney Life’s art attack show. On show and for
children to try were balancing plates, circus hoops, tightrope walking and
stilt walking to name just a few of the activities on offer focusing on balance
and coordination as well as fitness.
And the Fun
didn’t stop there as parents and children had the chance to try Yoga in The
Strand’s helping hand centre, all as part of The Strand’s health and well-being
focus for 2019.
Week two saw
the Strand host its second Scoot-fit disco on level one of the car park where
the scoot-fit team educated youngsters on the benefits of scooting, learning
the correct balance and coordination skills whilst exercising were all part of
the fun.
Lucy Kirk
Marketing manager commented ‘We ran our first Scoot-fit event in May and had so
much feedback from shoppers who wanted to see it back it was lovely to see the
sheer number of children taking part this time. The comments we have had from
the families has been overwhelming with so many contacting us to thank us and
show how much they have enjoyed the activity. We also ran a competition to win
a scooter with TJHughes which was great to have such retailer engagement in the
project so a big thankyou to them too.’
Week three saw
Biking skills in the car park in which youngsters learnt some new balance bike
skills and were taught about cycling safety and ways to increase their mobility
and coordination skills through cycling.
To finish off
the Summer activity The Strand teamed up with Virgin Media to run a 3 day
Soccer schools camp which saw children learning new football skills taught by
the talented Mr Silky Soccer skills on Mons Square.
Rowland Parry
Centre manager commented ‘Our Summer activity has been both engaging for our
shoppers and also has really embodied the health and well-being theme of
activity we have put together this week with a huge variety of activities on
offer most of which are new to the Strand. It’s been great to see so many new
faces attend the events. It’s also been great to have retailers supporting the
events such as TJHughes and Virgin Media to support these local community
engagement projects the centre for whom has now created a strong following.’
